Domain transferred away - should we manually change the status to Cancelled

Hi All,

In the "WHMCS Domain Syncronisation Cron Report" that is emailed to us every day, we can see a domain that says "Error: domain not found".

This is fine - the domain has been transferred to another registrar (not one of ours).

Is the correct procedure now in WHMCS to find the domain and:

1. Manually change the status to "Cancelled" from "Active"

OR

2. Delete it

I'm also assuming that there's nothing we should have done in WHMCS in advance of the domain name being transferred elsewhere? Sure, you're not going to now everytime in advance when a domain name is to be transferred to another registrar, but on the occasions that you do, is there anything you can/should do in advance in WHMCS?

Thanks.

But it still begs the question... what's the recommended best practice? Presumably this would be the same for everyone.

That depends entirely on your business practices.

If you don't want to keep historical records, delete it.

If you do want to keep historical records, mark it as cancelled, or set registrar to none, or both.

Hi All,

I took the liberty of cross-referencing with WHMCS in terms of what best practice they recommend. Here's their answer:

"It would be best to set it to Canceled and notate the domain to indicate it was due to a transfer out. This will ensure that WHMCS does not try to invoice for the domain in the future or include it in any sync reports, etc."
