FYI: Namecheap coupon changes

Not sure is anyone else got this yet, but just heard from Namecheap regarding the "coupon codes" they'd been using to denote your buying level there. The first level above retail reduced your cost by a certain amount, as long as you used that coupon at the site or in WHMCS.

With this change, your domains are already set to use the lower amount, and adding in the coupon apparently *increases* your cost. I tested, and it went UP 60 cents when I added my coupon.

So, the upshot is, go test on your account there. If the price increases when adding your coupon, your account is set to automatically discount, and the coupon should not be used there or within WHMCS.

The email:

Dear xxx,

Our records indicate that you are currently using the XXXXXX coupon code when you purchase domains. This code was enabled on your account in order to offer you a discounted rate on domain registration.

Based on the feedback we have had from XXXXXX users, we have moved our discount system from requiring coupon codes to automatic pricing tiers. Your account has been migrated to this new system.

What does this mean for you?

For purchases through your account:

You will not need to do anything. At this time, your account is reflecting these discounted rates automatically. You are no longer required to input a coupon code at the time of purchase to receive this lower price point.

If you are processing transactions through the API:

You will want to modify any automated systems that have this code included. Any attempted use of these codes will not have any impact at this time. However, in June 2013, we will be deactivating these codes. Once this happens, you may see errors within your automated systems.

Thank you again for choosing Namecheap as your domain and service provider. If you have any questions or additional feedback, please let us know. Your suggestions help us improve our systems.

Kind regards,

Namecheap Team
