[module] WHMCS Subscriptions - a must for US based hosts

Recommended Posts

The WHMCS Subscriptions module hands the power over to your clients and allows them to choose which emails they received from your site. This is a must if you want to satisfy the CAN SPAM ACT in the US.

Unfortunatley WHMCS does not provide built in support for managing email communications. As your business grows you will notice an increasing number of emails being sent to you asking for unsubscription, only send me invoice emails, etc.

This results in a few problems ..... when sending a mass mail how do you remember who didnt want to be contacted? and even if you do remember do you remember what type of emails they didnt want to receive?

The WHMCS Subscriptions module adds custom settings which allow the clients and you to manage there email subscriptions. WHMCS has 7 different email types: General / Support / Billing / Product / Product Addon / Domain / Affiliates.

These email types cover all situations from automated emails using the email marketer, to general mass mail emails sent by yourself about a new service you offer, etc. The module takes these email types and gives the client the option to unsubscribe from each type separately.

If you are required by law or just by curtsy for your clients interests the module will help your site and its emails be CAN SPAM ACT compliant by giving the user the option to choose which emails he/she is sent.

Please take a look at the product page here which conatins more detailed feature lists and some screenshots for you to take a look at:

they have signed up for your service, and the CAN SPAM ACT is NOT in affect then, as you should have all that in your TOS

Yes this covers you for messages relating to there account or services, but if you use the marketer feature, or send out general messages regarding services you would like the client to purchase this would not be covered by the can spam act.

every user should have the right to opt out of general messages that are not directly related to them or there services.

even if this wasnt the case i and many others belive it is curtious to allow your client to choose which emails they recieve from you. it also ebenifits you in the long run by not aggravating clients who wish to be left alone, which could lead to them switching providers.

this module performs the same general task as the linked module, but doesnt require you create custom settings or link created pages to the module, there seems to be a long setup proccess with that module. and i belive it is no longer supported by the developer.

with this module you simply install it as normal and the rest is done for you. and i also think with that module you cant change the clients subscriptions from the admin, but i could be wrong on that.
