What's needed to offer VPS

We offer shared hosting but have gotten some request for VPS hosting.

I must be a little thick because I don't understand what is needed to be able to offer it.

Should we get a dedicated server for VPS hosting and what should be installed on it?

Our shared hosting are Linux servers with cPanel. Is a VPS hosting server the same?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What I don't understand is how it all fits together.

OK, let's say I get a dedicated server and I want to offer VPS that has 512KB of RAM and 200GB disc space.

Do I create a bunch of those VPS first and install cPanel/WHM/VPS on each one?

Then, do I add each VPS as a server in WHMCS? When a customer signs up for a VPS, will then WHMCS pick an available VPS, create the username etc.., send the info and IP address so the customer can connect to the cPanel on the VPS?

You don't need cPanel for creating VPS servers, you need a Dedicated Server and software, and it's not cPanel, it Virtualization software, cPanel is for Web Hosting, not for VPS servers, only what you can do with cpanel on vps, is to install cPanel on that VPS.

Buy licese and install it, that's currently the best virtulization software.

You can connect it to WHMCS via plugin, so you can create, suspend, edit and etc... VPS from WHMCS directly and automaticly, and client can manage his VPS.

There are and free virtualization software, like HyperVM

But I strongly recommended to you SolusVM

Sorry for my bad english.
