Check for required custom fields on login

Is it possible to check for empty required custom user fields upon login/visit to the clientarea and if found load a page that requires update of such fields?

Yes, you can do this by creating a custom hook when the client logins and/or when a client area page is shown via the ClientLogin and ClientAreaPage hooks.
