WHMCS & cPanel Combine Powers

Recommended Posts

We are small, but we are in webhost business during last 12 years.

We have been customers from rackshack (our first dedicated was a sun cobalt ), then adquired by ev1servers, then adquired by theplanet, and now adquired by softlayered. everytime it get worst for somes and getting better for others...

in control panels, we used modernbill2 to 4 version, until plesk adquire them, and destroyed a big billing software. There we move to whmcs

When pleskbillnig adquired modernbill, they said exactly the same.. "Ey we will support all software" but we all know that happened with modernbill (now pleskbilling)

I think that As cpanel was unsuccesfully creating his own billing software , they decide to buy whmcs (see http://job.listings.cpanel.net/x/detail/a2ldog93kwgy )

I hope that if Matt continues as CEO , it will be a good move, that if cpanel take 51% it will not be good for market.

Important: We use cpanel - directadmin (few servers) and kloxo , also vps.net , also using enom and resellerclub , using 9 gateways. we love whmcs, but we see modernbill to die, we would not like to happen same thing to whmcs.

Look I understand people get jittery when these sort of announcements come out but don't read between the lines. All that has happened here is that cPanel have invested in WHMCS allowing them to grow and benefit from cPanels infrastructure. There is a world of difference between this and selling out.

With the amount of information that has been released so far by WHMCS/cPanel it is impossible to even predict what changes (if any at all) are being made but a quick check at companies house shows that there has been no change in the shareholder agreement nor management structure meaning things are exactly as they were before, just with some money invested in the company.

Believe me, if it had been Parallels making this announcement I would be running a mile but cPanel are a rock solid company for both support and transparency and I for one think this is a fantastic bit of news which can only mean good things for us all.

exactly as the statement "cPanel, Inc., will now have a financial stake in WHMCS Ltd. " to me reads that cPanel have bought shares in WHMCS ltd. which happens in business every day.

make that 2 as i would do the same

Yes, same here.

The real difference though is that cPanel is not Plesk (Parallels). Parallels and its predecessors has by far been the messiest company with the messiest software we had to work with, in every aspect. cPanel, on the other hand has been the best, together with Matt and his WHMCS. I really mean it. Those two have always been wonderful with both, their software and their support. ... Still, the more unions one gets into the more stiffling, usually (when it comes to innovations and quick decisions).

This is why it seems like whmcs.com site is hosted on data center of cPanel now.

So now Matt has direct access to data center whereas earlier they were dependent on hostagator and we all know that the social engineering breach too occurred there.

does not say they are on cPanel DC that a breach cannot happen. social engineering is becoming more common. social engineering/hacking can happen to any website no matter where they are hosted. It is the measures you as a site owner/hosting provider take to minimise these sorts of attacks.
