Price Increases

Recommended Posts

Technically, $324.95. You have a choice. Pay it and have a time saving tool that will save you way more than the purchase price in time managing your business or go somewhere else and get an inferior product. I own WHMAP, AWBS and they are both not worth the time or money. The support here is fantastic, Matt is always right on the ball. The others, not so good.

As John has said, it's $325 for unbranded - a price increase of just $75. This is due to increasing features and to encourage leased license purchases. A worsening GBP/USD exchange rate hs also forced us into an increase.

Matt, we were considering purchasing the license, however, what are the current costs of upgrading/support for owned licenses?

@grabyourhosting, with the current $324.95 for the owned license, you will break even against the current monthly rate after a little over 17 months. Add to that a support agreement, and you will be at a little under two years.

The British Pound Sterling has actually increased in value against the dollar over the last 6 months:

January 0.510578 GBP (23 days average)

February 0.510604 GBP (20 days average)

March 0.513531 GBP (22 days average)

April 0.503074 GBP (21 days average)

May 0.503993 GBP (23 days average)

June 0.503358 GBP (21 days average)

July 0.491522 GBP (22 days average)

The upgrades are $44.95/year

Which is bad as we're getting less in GBP for the same amount of dollars.

Thanks for the update. Would there be any disadvantages to moving to an owned license?

And yes, there's a 0.019 GBP (3.9 cents USD) difference in the interbank rate over periods Jan to July. That is really quite small, unless you are doing substantial business. ;)

$324 may seem a lot, but the way I think is, for the functionality you're getting, it's actually pretty good value. There are worse (less usable, less functionality) packages out there for a lot more (both in $ cost and pain!). When you think of what this will add to your business over only 2-3 years, it's worth it.

And if you're unsure about WHMCS at the start, why not just start off with a leased licence?

$324 isn't really that much money for good software that is needed to be a successful hosting provider. One concideration Matt could opt for is to offer an owned license of 3 or 6 months. (kind of lease to own) This would still offer the owned license, (maybe a slightly higher rate, broke over 3 or 6 months)

Obviously I can't speak for Matt of his company, but I have seen other software vendors do this, and appears to be a good model for keeping revenue streaming into the vendor.

The price are high lucky i bought it already

We also bought ours before the price increase and would have needed to continue with the app we were using then at the current pricing. We are hopeful Matt keeps the support upgrades as they are so we can continue to make our yearly contribution. One of the reasons we decided to buy was the confirmation that support upgrades would remain the same or very close to it.

BTW we recommend the software inside of a very large reseller and dedicated hosting market's forum. We were hopeful that all the extra signups would keep prices down.

The increases in owned license pricing is to try and encourage more users to lease WHMCS and pay monthly. It's all very well selling lots of owned licenses for a get rich quick scheme but if things are to continue improving and developing as I (and I'm sure most of you) would like them to in the future then there needs to be the residual income coming in. No problems at the moment though - just part of the long term planning strategy to be the #1! :)

Very smart... WHMCS is already #1 in our book!

indeed and worth every penny - even if those pennies do not go quite as far when paying a UK company ;)

Heck I got an email from MB saying my support runs out next year. Some how I doubt I will be making use of it!

I agree. WHMCS is responsive to what the customer wants, and implements logical improvements as soon as it is feasible. With most of the competitors you just don't have a voice.
