WHOIS server error.

Recommended Posts

some WHOIS server are giving me "An error occured while checking the availability of this domain" one of them is whois.nic.mx, even when i try to ping it from my server i do not get a response, this just happened out of nowhere with no configuration change either in WHMCS or my server, i contacted my server provider and he says all port are open, i contacted nic.mx and they say that they only allow 10 WHOIS lookups by ip a day, after that i have to wait an hour and then i have 10 more WHOIS lookups.

I am waiting for the hour to pass to confirm this but i am not sure that this is the issue because i noticed this not working really early in the morning when no WHOIS lookups had been made. Anyways, is there a way to avoid this happening by using a whois server from a authorized registrar? i am doing the domain registrations manually right now so if i become a reseller and add it as a domain registrar in WHMCS will the WHOIS lookups be made thru theyr servers?

It seems absurd that nic.mx is allowing such a small quantity of lookups, i will do some more testing on my server and report back but if you guys know anything about this issue please help me out.

Thanks.

did you integrate this service with whmcs? my issue is that my customers are not able to check if a .mx domain is available because it seems that nic.mx has a limit per ip a day and i am reaching it really fast. anybody knows more about this?

could it be something else? i can WHOIS .com .org .net and many mostly everything just fine from my server but it seems weird to me that i can not even ping the nic.mx server...

any thoughts?

2 obvious answers

1. you're using the wrong whois server

or

2. you're firewalled off - either at your end or theirs

does are the only reasons i can think of and i have not made any changes to my firewall or the whois server list so the only other thing that i belive it could be is that they are blocking me but it does nto make sense... =/

if i am running centos with the default firewall all i have to do is check the iptables to see what rules are in place right?

what happens when you type "whois (domain.ext)" from a prompt on the server ?

command not found, also, the whois server is working again, i didnt not change anything, it just started working again... weird, maybe i was banned in theyr firewall :S
