"I promise, I'll pay you today, just renew my domain and hosting"

I notice the same problem and most of the time it's a customer who is a friend of mine or family member asking me to renew and they will get me a card number in a few days... so it's tough to tell them No.

Here's a work-around I was using before I found the another solution at http://wiki.whmcs.com/Domains_Management#Renewing_a_domain_before_payment_is_received

1) Manually renew the domain and do not close the invoice.

2) Go to the domain within WHMCS and change Registrar to None. When customer pays the invoice it will not renew the domain.

3) Usually there is a support ticket already opened for the customer. If there isn't one, create one and classify it as In Progress. This will help you remember to do step 4 below.

4) In a few days check the invoice to see if it is paid. If it is go back to the Domain page within WHMCS and change Registrar back to the registrar the domain uses. You may also need to change the Expiry and Next Due Dates.

I treat all our customers equally, they all get 21 days notice of a new invoice and then up to 14 days to pay it so 35 days notice in total that they are made aware they owe money.

If they have't paid by the suspension date they get suspended until they pay it. Doesn't matter of they've been with me 6 days or 6 years, applies across the board.

Strangely though none of my long term customers have this issue as they all pay on time...
