Add on or Configurable options?

Hey guys,

I was wondering what is the best way to allow customers to add add ons like SSH and a dedicated ip?

How would you set it up?

Have these products available as an add on?

Or set them up as configurable options?

what is the difference between the two?

I am a little confused what difference there is between add ons and configurable options?

Add ons and configurable options are two different things. In configurable option you can actually adjust the quantity or features of that service. The best example of configurable option is Bandwidth.

You can't give bandwidth as add on. During the order client can adjust the bandwidth of a dedicated server according to his needs, That's is use of configurable option.

Now Add on are like secondary services or product with the main product. For example if i offer SSL certificate with web hosting then it's a add on. Add on can be free or charged periodically. You can also suspend / un-suspend add on.

Add on are billed separately while configurable option cost is included in total product price.
