custom product fields

Hi,

 

When you add custom fields to a product.. will they then show up in the client area for the client to change? It isn't happening for me at the moment but I have customised that template so may have deleted what should be htere ;)

 

Nope, doesn't look like I have so two questions... can this be done? And if so can someone point me in the right direction?
