mikelegg
I just had a client purchase 2 .com.au domain names and in both cases the Registrant Name that was submitted to the registrar was NOT the Registrant Name that the customer entered. Instead, his WHMCS Business Name was submitted. Being .com.au's this caused the registrations to fail. Is there any reason why WHMCS would decide to send the Business Name instead of the Registrant Name when ordering a domain?

mikelegg
This problem appeared to go away for awhile, but now it's back. I have made some customisations to /templates/cart/configuredomains.tpl, so I thought I may have caused the problem. But I've compared the generated HTML for my version with the standard version and the form fields appear to be identical. I can't understand why other WHMCS / TPP Internet users aren't having the same problem.
mikelegg
I've worked out what the problem is. WHMCS uses the contact's Company Name as the RegistrantCompanyName name when submitting the domain data to TPP Internet, ignoring the value that was entered in the Registrant Name field on the configure domains screen. This is causing most of my .com.au registrations to fail because the user's "Company Name" generally is not exactly the same as the name of the Legal Entity that matches the ABN/ACN. It would be much better if WHMCS could use the Registrant Name as entered by the customer as RegistrantCompanyName rather than substituting it with the Company Name from the contact profile. Now I see why most of my registrations fail the policy check at the registrar - the only ones that work are the few where the contact's company name exactly matches the name of the legal entity attached to the ABN/ACN. I also have clients who register domains on behalf of other companies - now I see what these orders ALWAYS fail policy at the registrar.
mikelegg
Matt has explained this to me ... WHMCS uses the value of the "Eligibility Name" field to populate TPP Internet's "RegistrantCompanyName" value. If the "Eligibility Name" value is empty (As it is my case because I've hidden the "Eligibility Name" field on my site) it uses the company name from the contact. So all I would need to to is use some client-side script to copy the value of the Registrant Name field to the Eligibility Name field. But going beyond the call of duty, Matt has sent me a customised version of the TPP Internet module that uses the Registrant Name form field value to populate the RegistrantCompanyName. Many thanks to Matt, you are looking at one very satisfied WHMCS user here
