aTechosting Re-design

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I have recently had a site make over, You would never of guessed, right?

Maine Site: http://atechosting.com/

WHMCS: http://atechosting.com/support/

I have a Logout link which I am working on because I am no expert on editing sites or designs that well and well editing <php was never my first culture so do bare with me.

I would also like to know what the code is for the logout link, if anyone can help me with that.

Otherwise I do love our WHMCS system and the integration looks great. Though their are always second inputs that can help improve it, wherever they are needed.

Thank you.

It looks very nice and clean, although does look very familiar to another provider...

Only thing that jumps out at me at first is the main nav bar not having equal distancing between links, it all starts ok, but the Support link is almost pushed off the main nav bar.

Maybe just dropping the margin-right in #mainnav to 35px would solve that, it just looks out of balance.

Other thing was the testimonials page could do with the same uniform font-family and size as the rest of the site.

I kinda felt like I had to squint to read that page.

Lastly, the image: http://atechosting.com/support/templates/new/mainimages/securearea.jpg could do with being a transparent image just to get rid of that little nasty white corners you can see on the whmcs page.

It's little details I know, but I personally like that attention to detail where possible, and if its only small things than it must be a good site eh? ;)

Other than that I think it looks nice and clean, and all over is a good job.

Hello PingVPS,

Sorry for my late reply. I am not receiving e-mails from WHMCS, Might fix that via my userCP :)

Firstly, I cannot see where that issue is occurring, I understand that it might show in certain browsers but have not seen it myself. I am using IE8 and FF 3.5.7.

Do you mean the word "Support" is being pushed off the nav bar or just the drop down border that is off more the screen than anything?

I am not good with edits to border lines, but sure I can have a look at that. Seems quite difficult to edit :(

Lastly, the image: http://atechosting.com/support/templ...securearea.jpg could do with being a transparent image just to get rid of that little nasty white corners you can see on the whmcs page.

I was going to remove this, I was not sure if to keep it, as you say it has bugged me as well as showing up in the white corners. I am no expert at photosop and I know you can remove those white snips some how. I might have to look more into transparency in PS and see what I can accomplish.

As I said, I am no expert or designer. But hey you never know I might surprise myself ;)

It's little details I know, but I personally like that attention to detail where possible, and if its only small things than it must be a good site eh?

All details are helpful, keep them coming. I do not mind at all. One thing that does bug me is the spelling and grammar that I will need to re-phrase a bit and fix up, English is my forte but was never with "symbols".

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean

Sorry I too am not getting emails from WHMCS forums, so didnt know you had responded. :P

With the Support nav I meant that the padding (spacing) between each word is not equally distributed between all the nav links. So all the main nav links are evenly spaced across the top nav bar, but then the Support link is just crammed on the end of the nav bar.

I have taken a look at it in FF 3.6 (RC), Safari and Chrome all on Mac OSX and its the same.

If you look in your style.css file on line 79 you can see the ID #mainnav a and the margin-right is set to 40px if you change that to 35px and refresh your page you can see what the difference will be.

If you do keep that image, just open it in PS and save it as a PNG file, and this will allow you to create a transparent background and will remove the white corners... simples! :)

Overall its still a really nice site.

Hello Ping,

I have now changed the 40px to 35px, I do hope you can see the changes. :)

I am using the latest FireFox so maybe I am not seeing it through my end, In Internet Explorer 8 it shows nothing different.

Perhaps it is all in cache and it is not resembling those effects through my end as they are yours. I will have to clear my cache - As I will be buying a new PC soon it should be all ready for me to view perfectly.

I do not remember getting a PSD for that, or, the logo as well so I will need to contact the designer and see if he can create me one or has one on his file to re-send me so I can do that :)

I think overall the site is good, Needs some minor improvements, adjustments and some content re-arrangements + content adding and then it should be fine.

As I am no expert on design it makes it terribly hard for me to get it the way I want it, So I have to look at some of these site: webappers.com just as an example to get some ideas from.

Could you please let me know how you go with viewing the changes?

I see nothing changing via my end at all :(

Thank you,

Sean

I like the changes that you have made. The integration between your main site, WHMCS, and vBulletin flows very well now and that is no easy task. The site loads nice and fast too! The only thing that really stands out is the broken corners on the client login box within WHMCS on FireFox 3.5.7 & IE8. IE8 also pops up a warning about unsecure content too.

Overall, nice job!

Hello,

Thanks for the praises, I will be working on the site to try and remove dead code, try and fix the line break in WHMCS and will try and make it a good overall impression to viewers.

I have noticed the vBulletin Integration also looks shocking in IE8, as in bad :(

What CMS or template are you using? Looks good..

Using HTML no CMS, Template was custom made by our designer.

Yeh the changes have taken effect on my side, looks better in the header nav.

You need to also check the forum header nav links, the Home link when your on the forum is a dead link.

If you ever want some inspiration for design, this is a nice site to use with a 10 min break and a coffee in hand:

http://www.webdesignerheaven.com/

I would say with a couple of tweaks you've got a nice site there which will look modern for some time to come.

The fact its simple and has good functionality is all you need... shame its not on a CMS though as updates will take longer than you might desire.
