Can't say enough about WHMCS. I was about to go with ModernBill but thankfully I came accross WHMCS on webhostingtalk.com. From the moment I first saw it I loved it! Installation was easy. I was confused about the template editing at first but after scanning through the forum it was no problem after I understood how easily it worked and in a few hours my new billing solution was up and running. Matt just writes software the way I need to have it and it works with virtually no problems so far. The first word from clients is that they really like it too. If they are happy I am too. What I really have to say is unsurpassed is Matt's attitude towards his business and the time he puts in. He answers tickets very quick and in a through and professional manner on top of everything else. Also I'm amazed that one man can do so much when other software products I've used have dozens or hundreds of employees and produce such buggy releases that take so much of my time to fix which I should be spending on running my business. Luv WHMCS and look forward to seeing how it evolves from here...

I've used both for hosting and the VPS is a nice place to start or even stay and learn as you can re-install the OS or backup pretty easy if you make a mistake (which will happen) and you don't have to be responsible for maintaining the equipment. Usually you can get on servers that have dual SCSI drives with RAID 1 or 10 for redundancy which is nice compared to the low end leased dedicateds which are usually single desktop IDE drives. I later moved to my own custom built dedicateds when I was proficient enough as I wanted more control and didn't want to be in a sharred environment. Though it's a lot more responsibility but for the same monthly price of a leased dedicated I have dual cpu's and dual SATA RAID 1 hard drives. Just depends on what your needs are. I was with SolarVPS for the VPS's and they were great. Had very responsive support. Colo4Dallas is great for colocation. webhostingtalk.com is a wonderful place to learn about hosting also if your new to the business...

My mistake, no bug just an oversight on my part from what I can remember. The reason for not being able to upgrade and only install v3 was that I accidentally read step 2 of the install instructions while reading the upgrade instructions. So I inadvertently renamed configuration.php.new to configuration.php before uploading to the server causing the upload of v3 to the server to wipe out the v2.5.8 configuration.php file already on the server.

Attempted to do an upgrade from 2.5.8 to 3.0.0 but during the install all I could choose was the "Install" new 3.0.0 version. I later just wiped out the db and 2.5.8 install and did a clean install of 3.0.0 and that went ok except under the "Check for Updates" section in the admin it now says: Your Version 3.0.0 Latest Version 2.5.8 Also had a strange ftp problem during the upgrade where a number of files were not being overwritten in directories with the newer files. (That's why I did a clean install.) On the new install all files copied correctly. I had tried bot the binary and auto settings in ws_ftp. Everything else so far seems to be working well...

I was wanting my Invoices to start at a default other than 1 and also have 5 digits so I don't duplicate my client Invoices from QuickBooks. After opening up the WHMCS database in phpmyadmin I edited the last Invoice in both "tblinvoiceitems" and "tblinvoices". ("invoiceid" and "id" fields respectively). This seems to have worked and the subsequent Invoices are being created and incrementing nicely after the change and the db appears ok. Was this the correct way to do this? Also I have one "stuck" Invoice (#1) which appears in the client area but not the admin area. (It's in tblinvoiceitems but not tblinvoices). If I delete that row from tblinvoiceitems am I going to cause any problems? I see these increment sequentially from 1 on up without missing any steps. Thanks...

After looking into things further it looks as if I was running a high bandwidth program in the background on my pc so that along with my client area only being accessed via ssl might have caused the timeout errors I was getting when trying to reach the client area. So my WHMCS install seems to be doing very well so far and one of the most trouble free options I've added. Matt has been very responsive with the support tickets also....so glad I didn't go with modern bill...

Well Matt had a look and says the local license seems to be working. Still perplexed as to why though my client area was down the same time as Wednesday's downtime and admin section problems. That seems to suggest a connection even if it's on my side unless I'm missing something. Any suggestions? Thanks for the "lynx" idea MACscr, nice little tool, can't believe I haven't come across it before. I ran the cron and the command line and with the comman line I still see a ioncube reference unless that's just due to it being run from the command line. The "Disk Space & BW Usage Sum" doesn't update and has been empty a week after installation. The other reports seem to be fine. This might be a problem with Ubuntu and Debian as they handle some things differently than CentOS did.

I know a lot about linux just have never had any reason to use lynx in all these years. So guess it's not the cron then. I tried Reissuing the License again but as before no change. I thought it may be a firewall port problem but no effect there after turning APF off for a bit. How exactly is the local key put on the server? Is it automatically done during installation or do I have to download and install it? I noticed in the "Your Licenses" area of the WHMCS website that there isn't an option to download a local key, but I could have sworn it was there when I first logged into that area last week?

I did upload the ioncube directory and used it for the WHMCS install. I tried installing without that dir and go errors until I used it. Not familiar with lynx. Can you give an example of how I would change that cronjob above to work with lynx? Do you think this license problem is related to this cron not running right or would it be something else entirely? Was not able to reach my WHMCS installation durring an outage at the WHMCS website earlier Wednesday. This was a surprise to me as the install went ok I thought. Luckily I only have a few clients on this server so far. Was mentioned to me it might be a problem with the local license backup. I've been using WHMCS for only a week and not too familar with it yet. And how would I test my install afterwards to make sure that it's working so I don't get any downtime if the main WHMCS site goes down again? This is a Plesk 8.1 server on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS using WHMCS 2.5.8 Thanks...
