megatr0n
I am new to this domain registration and transfer thingy but I realize that I had better learn it fast. I know how to register a domain for myself. If someone is going to buy a hosting package from me, more often than not they are going to register or transfer a domain for their intended website to go with it. I know how whmcs works and it does ask for and store a domain name in its database when a customer orders a webhost package from my store. But what happens to the domain that is transfered or registered in whmcs's database after purchase? Are name servers propogated automatically behind the scenes? Do I have to do this manually? I am aware that enom is bundled with my hostgator reseller account, however i don't know to use and integrate it with whmcs. I mean that my store has already been configured with the appropiate enom settings and modules but I don't understand what is taking place when a customer registers or transfer a domain with me. I saw in a confirmation email somwhere that I have been provided with a retailer account at enom. How do I make money from the domain hosting side of my reseller account? What is the significance of this? Hope this is not too many questions for one post. I would appreciate it very much if someone could clarify this for me.
othellotech
If they register a domain in the same order then it will be regstered with the nameservers you've set on teh server in WHMCS If they transfer a domain, they will need to change the nameservers *before* transfer with the existing registrar, or *after* transfer through your WHMCS >I have been provided with a retailer account at enom A retail account is not the same as a reseller account - one is for you to register domains and pay for each at the time, the other allows you to "pre-load" it with money, and preform automated registrations - you take the money from the client, then the system registers it Best thing you can do to test it is try a few
megatr0n
"If they register a domain in the same order then it will be regstered with the nameservers you've set on teh server in WHMCS", so basically the domains chosen at the time of ordering are registered with my hosting account name servers. "If they transfer a domain, they will need to change the nameservers *before* transfer with the existing registrar, or *after* transfer through your WHMCS".i.e change the name servers to the name servers in WHMCS. Is that a correct assumption? Which leads me to my main question, if WHMCS can do all this domain registration then what would I need ENOM for?
scurrell
Which leads me to my main question, if WHMCS can do all this domain registration then what would I need ENOM for? WHMCS is not a domain registrar. It just passes the info to the registrar via their API (in this case ENOM) for the domain to be registered/transferred.
othellotech
Which leads me to my main question, if WHMCS can do all this domain registration then what would I need ENOM for? WHMCS is a registration aid - it takes the order, processes the payment, generates the nvoice/receipt, logs the details and sends the request to register to your choice of *registration company* who may or may not then send it on to the *registrar* Enom in this scenario is the *registrar* Rob
