How to support Gift Certificate purchases?

I need some help/feedback on my thought process here:

- I set up a product, with a price (Gift Cert, say $25)

- custom fields - "To email", "From Name", "Message: "

- Customer orders product, creates account, pays $25 to me -

- then what???

- can the shopping cart be set to automatically notify me?

- then I manually create GC & email to recipient??

- also will have to manually create new account for recipient & "add funds??"

- what kind of paper trail will there be?

I'm brain tied on this one! Help!! :?:

A order notification will go to whatever email you have set for your administrator account and if you have the option checked in the admin roles config. Also check out the documentation on action hooks. I haven't used them yet but they may help do what you need.

Thanks tomdchi,

for anyone interested, I'm going to do it the 'long way' until I get busier. For this season, this little method will suffice:

- sell a "gift cert" option in the cart, with custom fields -

"Name of Recipient" - may be fictitious ie: Pretty in Pink &

"Gift Recipient through Email? or Regular Mail?"

"Recipients Address: "

"

- Upon order completed notification, I will 1) create an account for the Recipient, 2)add funds to the account (credit). and 3)deliver gift cert
