Panopta Server Monitoring Provisioning Module

Recommended Posts

I'm happy to announce the public release of the Panopta WHMCS provisioning module, which lets our server and network monitoring services to be sold via WHMCS. We've been using the WHMCS module in production with a few of our partners for more than a year, and are now making the module available to any other hosting companies that are interested in adding a monitoring service to their product offerings.

Our goal is to enable you to quickly and easily add monitoring services to your product offering, providing additional service to your customers and generating more revenue for your company. Details on the monitoring service and WHMCS module are listed below. I'd be happy to answer any questions or provide additional information either in this thread or via email at jason@panopta.com.

Monitoring Features

High frequency checks: We check your customer's services every 60 seconds to make sure that short outages aren't missed. And with our monitoring control panel, users can easily configure and manage checks for hundreds of servers.

Distributed monitoring network: 24 monitoring locations throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to provide local performance checks from wherever your customers are located.

Intelligent notification: We confirm any outage from multiple locations before notification - no more false alerts! Also, multi-level escalations via email and SMS make sure users are notified of every outage.

Zero installation: The entire monitoring service is hosted by Panopta, so no hardware or software deployment is needed by yourself or your customers - a simple web-based configuration interface lets customers setup monitoring in minutes.

In-depth availability data: Customers can view realtime performance statistics through our control panel as well as daily/weekly/monthly summary reports via email.

Public reports: Show off your availability! With our public report functionality, prospective customers can view independently verified availability data about your servers. Reports can be extensively customized to match the look and feel of your existing web presence.

WHMCS Provisioning Features

Co-branded or white label monitoring service: Our monitoring service can be presented to your customers either as a co-branded service between your company and Panopta, or fully white labeled (including control panel, email/SMS/voice alerts, email and web reports) to only present your brand.

Flexible packaging/pricing model: We can configure custom monitoring packages to meet the pricing and feature requirements of your target customers. Packages can range from a single check for less than $1/month to high-end packages with all the bells and whistles. If desired, trial accounts can be setup to give your customers a free taste of the service before they commit to purchasing.

Single sign on: With our single sign on functionality, you can embed a link in the client area for any customers that have purchased monitoring, and they can login to our custom monitoring control panel with a single click - no separate username/password required.

Simple installation and configuration: The module is easy to install and only takes minutes to configure one or more monitoring packages within WHMCS so you can begin selling.

There's information and a free trial of the monitoring service available on our website at http://www.panopta.com. We don't have a demo of the WHMCS integration setup currently as there's not that much to look at there currently - we provide a provisioning module that gives you a new product type that can be sold in WHMCS, plus code to drop into your client area templates that enables single signon to our control panel.

The module itself isn't much good without a reseller account setup on our system so we don't have a public download of the module - we typically send it out after everything is setup on our end. If you'd like to see it anyway, or if I can answer any further questions feel free to reply here or contact me at jason@panopta.com.

Hi Jason,

How exactly does this work? I would quite like for clients to be able to order monitoring directly through our website without having to login to your panel via a single login i.e. they submit what they want monitored on oyr website and your module feeds that back to your website to set up under our account.

Do you follow my drift?

Regards, Jon

Right now, the WHMCS module is limited to just provisioning and managing customer accounts on our system, and doesn't have the ability to directly configure monitoring and alerting from within WHMCS. We are currently working on extensions to our underlying API to support more fine-grained configuration through the API, which will be reflected in an upcoming release of the WHMCS module due out in late Q1/early Q2.

Once this is completed, direct integration of monitoring configuration into the WHMCS interface should work fine for relatively basic monitoring. However, many of our more advanced features (complex notification schedules, maintenance periods, outage management portal, etc.) likely won't be supported through the API due to the complexity of their user interfaces. One idea we have considered is to enable these through the use of an IFRAME that's dropped into WHMCS, so the actual user interfaces would be served from our servers (with customized look/feel to integrate visually with WHMCS) but would look like a seamless application from the enduser's perspective. If anyone has thoughts on whether this would work well or not, or experience doing something similar with other tools, I'd love to hear about it.
