Evcthosting
We were testing some server features today and found something we hope is helpful to the community. When we did a Google on it we found a lot of info pointing to users that may be having issues while implementing the [MOD] TLS, not sure what that is yet. Our error was produced while tweaking our ConfigServer Firewall (csf) found at here If your CSF firewall security level settings (WHM>Plugins> ConfigServer Security&Firewall>Firewall Security Level) are set to anything higher than "low" you will receive an email server connection error in your whmcs while attempting to send any kind of SMTP mail. We have found a few work arrounds but not a solid way to implement the medium to high settings with out seeing smpt errors in whmcs; if anyone has worked with this let us know and keep the thread alive. Here is the error we were seeing. customers will see this on sign up, ticket submissions or while placing an order. Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to mail.domain.com:25 (Connection timed out) in /home/user/public_html/whmcs/includes/class.smtp.php on line 122 Email Sending Failed - SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. quietfinn
Email Sending Failed - SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. It's this setting: Block outgoing SMTP connections except for root, exim and mailman If the "Security level" is Medium or High that is set to 1. It's "SMTP_BLOCK" in csf config.

Richie
Hi Guys We have just upgraded our server to PHP 5.2.11 and now find that we have the exact same problem, SMTP emails are not sending from WHMCS... All was fine a short while ago, earlier tonight, everything hunky dorey, emails going out to customers no problem as of 11pm last night, so an hour ago we upgraded to PHP5.2.11, in line with PCI compliance of HSBC and find our SMTP mail sending is also throwing out the same errors: Email Sending Failed - SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.Downgraded to PHP 5.2.10 and still the same problem... Downgraded again back to PHP5.2.9 where we started from and all was good again... Seems WHMCS 4.2 doesnt like PHP5.2.10/11.. Thats sucks because 5.2.9 wont pass HSBC's PCI scanning checks.
