SEO Friendly URLs in admin when adding KB Articles to tickets?

Hi all,

When adding a KB article link to a support ticket, the links available in the backend are non-sef urls.

i thought that i had somehow forgotten to copy the code in for this into my system on the last upgrade, then realised that it should be hard coded.

Which would mean that the backend php file that displays the available articles to choose from, couldn't contain the {if} statements for URL re-writing, could it?

If it did, the htaccess file would simply apply url re-writing to non-sef links in the backend, equally as it does front-end, wouldn't it?

I was tempted to post this as a bug, then thought I'd gt a second opinion first.

I was indeed serious :) It seems what you're after is user friendly links rather than search engine friendly links (admittedly, they are the same). In your scenario there's no advantage except that the customer sees a prettier link. So what I would do is either describe the link like this:

See the following link to learn how to interpret Google Analytics reports: /support/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&catid=24&id=223

Or better yet, like this:

Please visit this link to interpret Google Analytics reports.

I do see your point though. I just thought at first that you wanted search engine friendly links for SEO purposes, not so they look prettier.

No, you are right, its user friendly links that i'm after, but the use of the SEO link would suffice.

Sorry if I sounded harsh, I just missed an emoticon.

There's another 2 points to this.

Firstly by the customer seeing human readable links, the knowledgebase would be less daunting for some of our "less-skilled" clients.

Secondly, its a damn sight quiclker than your 2 alternatives.

I'm guessing this isn't a major issue to add to the next version, because the code already exists in the frontend.

Seeing as how no-one thinks its a technical issue/bug, I'll report it to Matt as a feature request for the next patch/version
