June Newsletter

Hi everyone and welcome to the third edition of the WHMCS Newsletter. It’s a little later than it should have been, caused by the higher than normal volume of enquiries and support requests we received in the weeks following the v4 release. So much so in fact that I'm pleased to announce 2 more support staff, John & Dale, have been added to the team!

In today’s newsletter we’ve got our v4 releases to let you know about, a new community addons directory & our public license validater.

WHMCS Version 4

Just last month, we released a major new version of WHMCS. V4 introduced many new features & enhancements with the highlight being multi-currency support. This now means that with a single WHMCS installation, you can offer products & accept payments in more than 1 currency. And the built in cron can update exchange rates & prices automatically should you choose.

Other exciting new features included:

  • Billable Items which allow you to schedule items to be billed at specific times, and with optional recurring terms for a preset number of occurrences
  • Client Groups to differentiate clients in lists and apply global discounts and settings overides
  • Refund Entry on invoices with the ability to automate the refund process with various gateways including PayPal, Authorize.net, eWay & Quantum Gateway
  • Ticket Escalation Rules which can apply actions to tickets such as automatic replies and notifications when meeting certain criteria & times of inactivity
  • Support System Usability enhancements such as multiple attachments, quick links through to users products, AJAX status changes, KB articles in multiple categories
  • Password Strength meter & requirements as well as account Security Questions for things like “Mother’s Maiden Name”, “Place of Birth”, etc…
  • Admin Area Header/Footer now customisable through new admin template files and CSS styling
  • Many enhancements of existing features such as skip fraud check for existing clients, override auto suspend until a specific date, generate future invoices early on demand, auto release module and more…

Security Update

The latest release in the V4 series includes a security related patch. It is therefore recommended that all users upgrade. There is also a patch for those of you still running on V3.8.2 included in the same download.

Official Community Addons Directory Launched

Addons & User Contributions are modules and code modifications that users have made to WHMCS to add additional functionality and have then documented and released for the benefit of others. We facilitate these extensions through the use of template files, action hooks, custom pages & modular gateway/provisioning/registrar systems.

As WHMCS continues to grow, so too does the number of addons being created by developers using WHMCS. Until now, these have only been submitted in a contributions category on the forums but with more and more posts, we recognise it has become difficult to locate and stay up to date with them.

Therefore, 2 weeks ago we launched an official community addons directory where addons can be submitted by developers and where they will then be categorized, searchable, and sorted by popularity for browsing.

You can visit the directory @ http://www.whmcs.com/members/communityaddons.php'>http://www.whmcs.com/members/communityaddons.php

The addons listed in the directory are written by external parties and are in no way endorsed or verified as safe by WHMCS. Addons are used at your own risk.

License Validator

Piracy is a constant battle for all software providers and unfortunately we are no exception. We receive numerous reports each week of suspected unauthorized installations from hosts which we review and in confirmed cases, issue DMCA notices for. To aid users in checking and reporting sites we have now setup a public check page where you can search to confirm if a domain is authorized to be running WHMCS before reporting it.

This tool can be found @ http://www.whmcs.com/members/verifydomain.php'>http://www.whmcs.com/members/verifydomain.php

Thanks for your time and we wish you all a successful & enjoyable summer 2009.
