Domain Names - trying to figure out how it works

Hi Everyone,

We are fairly new to WHMCS, and I am trying to figure out how WHMCS handles domains, reminders (notifications), invoicing for domains, and actual renewals through to the registrar.

I have read over the Manual/Wiki over and over, and I have read nearly every post on the forum that I can find - and it only made it more confusing. In fact, it seems like no one understands how it works ... or atleast i couldn't decypher it all.

So here are are my questions:

1. The emails that get sent to clients 60, 30, 14etc days before domain expires - does this generate invoice too - or only notifications of impending expiry.

2. If invoice is already created, and client logs in and clicks on Renew domains, what happens? is another invoice created?

Thanks for the help everyone.

1. No. Invoices are generated in accordance with the Invoice Generation setting.

Ok, so if we have it set to send out invoices 7 days before due - that means the system will send out domain expiry emails 60, 30, and 14 days in advance WITHOUT invoice - then 7 days before expiry the invoice is generated? correct?

2. I think so

So there will be two invoices??

Also, what is the difference between the 'Expiry Date' and 'Next Due Date'??

Expiry Date is the date the domain expires with the registrar.

The Next Due Date is the date you set for when the invoice that will be generated will be due.

I personally have the Next Due Date set to the same date as the Expiry Date, but I for all credit card charges I process the day before.
