charliez
Can I upgrade from 3.6.1 directly to 3.8.1? or do I have to upgrade step by step...3.6.1, 3.7, 3.7.2, 3.8.1 Is there a how to upgrade document somewhere? I have a lot of integration stuff in my website and do not want to break it... TIA

risrik
The boards have been a bit quiet as of late I've noticed. I, myself just upgraded from 3.6.1 to 3.8.1 so no, you don't have to upgrade step by step. Each version is an entire copy of all files whether they were part of the upgrade or not. You might want to purchase the upgrade service and let WHMCS do it for you. They may better understand how to upgrade without screwing up all of your modifications. Or, you can do it yourself if you know what pages have changed (just go line by line and update anything). In any case, I would recommend doing a backup of your database and all of your files!
charliez
risrik... thanks very much... your info puts me at ease towards the upgrade! I will try myself first using WinMerge... if it looks too complicated I'll fork the bucks for the service... thanks a lot!
nowares
I'm just about to try the same upgrade. I think I may backup all the info (SQL + files), then install from new and import the old account data. It will mean a little downtime while the switch takes place, but I think it's the safest way.
risrik
If you upgrade, you do not have to export and then import your data. The upgrade will automatically made any changes necessary to the database but will keep the data inside it intact. Upgrading is actually easier than I thought it would be. You just follow the instructions provided (readme.txt). By running the install.php file (go to it in your browser), all the database changes will be completed but your data will be the same. Then you basically take the files and dump them into their folders. Of course, any customization you've added, such as changing the header.tpl, footer.tpl, or styles.css files will need to be updated manually but they are relatively small files so it really shouldn't be an issue. I just recommend taking a backup of the database and all files in case you do something terribly wrong and screw things up. Then you can just put the older version back up. In terms of downtime, there really isn't any unless you have mega customization. I did everything in under an hour.
