cPanel - Module Command Error

We recently upgraded our version of WHMCS to v3.8.1 and now we are having problems with the cPanel module.

Every time we attempt "Create" or "Terminate" the page hangs for a while before returning this error:

Module Command Error

An unknown error occured

The action does happen on the server, i.e. it does create and terminate the account, just for some reason it fails to return a success and it hangs. The real problem with this is that orders which are automatically created are not being marked as 'complete' and our staff are wasting time dealing with them when before they'd simply automatically complete and not become a problem.

Any ideas how I can get this resolved?

It is not a firewall issue - we've checked that already, and it wouldn't be working on the server if it was anyway!

I tried it with another one of our cpanel servers and it worked fine, so there looks to be something wrong with the configuration of the server (either whmcs side or cpanel side).

Well no offence but if it is executing but timing out and hanging as you decribed something is obviously killing/blocking the process from finishing. The logical conclusion would be your firewall/process monitoring software. We use CSF and it is used as a firewall but it also monitors process' and kills them should they become executable and run suspicious commands that are not recognised.

Maybe try disabling your firewall/monitoring software completely and see if it that solves your issue. Unless you have any other ideas?

If its not then it's likely to be something either related to to your WHMCS .php files, so maybe re-upload all the latest .php files, clear the templates_c (cache) folder and also try running an update of whm/cpanel.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Regards

Andrew

Valorin - did you solve your problem?

We seem to be having the exact same issue with one particular server. Every other cpanel/WHM server is working perfectly, but when we try to create an account on this server it returns the following error:

Module Command Error

An unknown error occured

On further inspection, WHMCS is definately connecting the server, and it seems to be going through the process because we can see the domain being created in httpd.conf, etc/passwd, etc/group and more - but it returns the error above, and when checking for the domain in cpanel/whm, the domain account it is no where to be seen. It does not show up in 'List Accounts' nor in the DNS zones.

As far as we know, all servers are setup the same, so why this one server is having problem is very strange.

Any ideas?

Some good news.

With the excellent support of Matt and the team, they were able to diagnose the problem ... not the solution, but the problem.

With that problem, I was able to speak with cPanel directly and had their support team check over it.

In the end, the problem is that the cPanel account create API call (/xml-api/createacct) was terminating without any response at all.

cPanel indicated that this is a known problem is some specific builds - solution - upgrade cPanel AND WHM to that latest version ... we were like .3 off of the latest version or something.

So we upgraded, and everything worked straightaway.

Cheers
