rhino
I created some "internal" accounts to own my personal domain names and web hosting accounts. The intention was to have these accounts registered in WHMCS (for inventory purposes, etc.) but not be billed accordingly. However, I cannot seem to find a way to have these products be "perpetually free". One solution I see is to create promo codes, but perhaps there is other (more elegant) ways to do this is WHMCS.
nielsenj
I use promo codes just to fit in with the rest of the system. Alternatively you can manually edit the invoice prices and package prices before payment is made and set everything to 0 and the invoice will be paid automatically on renewal since there is no cost.

Having your own 100% off recurring voucher does the trick - the ongoing price is set then at zero and perpetually renews
scurrell
Just set the Billing Cycle to "Free Account"
rhino
Thanks guys for the suggestions! Just set the Billing Cycle to "Free Account" The only problem I see with this is if I want to offer a product which I normally charge a certain amount for, I will need to to have a duplicate of which and set it as free. I'm just wondering, what are the pros and cons of either of the two solutions? One thing I see in the "set billing cycle to free account" solution is, since obviously I will set the product as hidden, there is a danger of someone entering the URL manually (since the ID key of each product is easily guessable) and register for it (well, of course, you would probably be screening new product registrations, but still... )
rhino
Also, another thing is: how do I set the billing cycle for a domain name when it isn't packaged with other products? I think only product packages (i.e. web hosting) have the billing cycle that can be set as free.
redrat
I have created a 'Complimentary' package (with an arbitrary spec suitable for most purposes) for such accounts that is priced at £00.00 with the Billing Cycle set to Free. It is placed in a 'Private (Hidden) Group so does not show up in the Ordering process pages at all. I also use stock control with that set to limit availability, just as a precaution and reminder to me that I do actually need to sell accounts as well! lol This works fine for me.
