Fernis
Which payment gateways do you guys use? I am setting up a new web hosting business and I am not sure how many payment gateways I should offer or is needed. Do I need more than one, such as both Paypal and 2CO? Is there any advantage to have both?
Harrison
PP & 2CO sounds like a good plan. Paypal is highly used but there are people who don't like it and can use 2CO. However, 2CO do have high fees.
xxkylexx
We only use PayPal and 2CO. I haven't found a need for any others.

MACscr
I recommend having paypal and a regular CC merchant such as bluepay as options.
Fernis
Is Bluepay the best regular CC merchant to go with? I am not familiar with any of them? What is the approximate cost of a regular CC merchant?
s1rk3ls
I just signed up for Bluepay recently - they have a plan with monthly fees, I don't know the exact rates...Something like $17/month with $0.25+2.2% per transaction. But since I do so few transactions, I signed up through "ModernAuthorize" (which is technically for users of ModernBill, but anyone can signup and use them) they have a plan with no fees, but higher fees at $0.40+4.9% per transaction. (As long as my monthly transactions are low it's cheaper for me this way - as my customers migrate over from PayPal I may eventually change to the other pricing structure) It took almost 2 weeks to get activated (waiting for approval, signing/faxing back documets, etc) but its working good now. I had to apply directly to Amex and Discover then supply Bluepay with the merchant IDs they gave me and now I can do Visa/MC/Amex/Disc
chrishaley
What are the merchant fees from Amex/Discover on top of BluePay's fees? I signed up with one that used Authorize.net as the gateway that was supposed to be no fees with higher per transaction fees, but then started getting hit with Amex & Discover's $25 per month fee...(Don't remember if Visa/MC had one too, but now I'm just using PayPal and 2CO. I'd like to see a Google Checkout gateway...I looked at writing one myself but they made their gateway unnecessarily difficult to use (I don't know much about xml...)
s1rk3ls
I don't have it in front of me, but I think it was like $5/mo and 4% per transaction for Amex and 2.9% + 0.10/transaction with discover...not too bad
Fernis
I signed up for 2CO and after a few days I get this email. The payment portion of my site is totally unedited and is what whmcs designed. I was caught off guard with them stating I wasn't in compliance. Anyone else get this? "Upon initial review of your account, we have found the following issue(s) that may restrict your ability to accept sales. It is vitally important that you thoroughly read ALL of the information in order to eliminate delays to your service. If your account has been restricted for these reasons, any purchase or test purchase attempts will return a PARAMETER error: Your website is non-compliant with our Terms of Service in the manner in which you display credit card logo’s and/or represent the relationship between your business and 2CO. (Statements such as "pay with 2CO", "buy through 2CO" or any that refer to 2CO as a payment processor are non compliant). The Credit Card Associations and 2CO's upstream provider specifically require that 2CO be defined as a reseller or retailer for your company on your website and not a payment processor. A simple footnote or a one-liner, prior to the checkout page stating, "2Checkout.com, Inc. is an authorized reseller (or retailer) of <your company name here>" will suffice, provided there are no other credit card logo or site language issues. While these issues will not immediately affect your ability to sell, it is important that your site meet the terms of service requirements as soon as possible. Further information in regards to our site language requirements can be found at http://sellers.2checkout.com/language_guidelines.html"
MACscr
i dislike 2CO and this just reiterates why. Also, unless your doing a lot of credit card transactions or know of certain companies that only can pay with amex/discover, etc, i wouldnt recommend paying the extra for american express/discover. Reason being is that most customers dont even have these cards or if they do, they usually use visa/mastercard. Ever heard of someone not having a visa/mc, but having amex/discover?
columbusgeek
I signed up for ModernAuth after hunting for a month for the right "fit" It's a lot of paperwork, but perfect for somebody who wants to start taking credit cards in a more professional manner then a gateway like 2CO or PP. I am very very happy so far. I signed up for 2Co and got that very same email and promplty never used that system at all. Once I saw the checkout flow they had in place I went elsewhere.
