Error trying to create email template

[lemongrass]

Hi!

 

I am trying to create an email template but when I try to send it I get the message:

 

Fatal error: Smarty error: [in emailtpl:emailmessage line 44]: syntax error: unrecognized tag: (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 439) in /home/public_html/clients/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1095

 

I also get: Template Error [Line 44]: syntax error: unrecognized tag: if I go bvack into the template and try to resave it

 

I thought it may be a field I inserted but I only used 3:

 

{$client_email}

{$client_password}

{$client_first_name}

 

I am using 3.7.1
