Changing Mail In customer to recurring cc

Let's say a customer signs up and selects Mail In Payment as the preferred payment method. If they later want to switch to recurring cc payment, how is this done?

on a per invoice basis - they can change the method on the invocie

for future invoices - you can change the product in their account

for existing invoices and the future invoice, you should make the appropriate changes for them (takes seconds) and then ask them to pay the oldest invoice, you will then recurring charge their card for the others (if using futurepay) the following morning.
