Proper method of cancelling a service?

Hi there guys,

 

I've got a client that moved to another hosting provider and the renewal has come up for a hosting package that is no longer applicable. Thing is, I've moved servers in the interim, and there isn't an account to terminate or suspend. The only important thing to me is to show in the system that it's no longer an applicable service. I worry that if I do it incorrectly, I'll mess up the payment history in WHMCS.

 

Could someone share with me the proper way to cancel a service in the system, not necessarily on the server that hosts it?

Ideally the customer should submit a cancellation request and the whole thing will be done automatically. But to do it manually just set the service to "Cancelled", that will stop WHMCS from generating any further invoices for that product.
