Billing questions - paypal / 2checkout

subigo

Question

Hi, I'm thinking about using whmcs soon and I've been using the demo, but there are a few things I'm unclear about and I can't seem to find the answer.

Right now, I just send my customers straight to 2checkout or use a buy it now button with PayPal. They all choose either yearly or monthly recurring billing. I set up the plans in 2checkout manually, etc...

Now with whmcs, from what I can gather, I don't have to create accounts in 2checkout at all, correct? I just input my 2co ID and whmcs does the rest... but it can't handle recurring billing, so my customers will get an e-mail every month/year and be asked to enter their payment information again... is this right?

With PayPal I can't figure out if how it exactly works. Does whmcs create subscriptions or does it just e-mail an invoice to the customer every month?

Also, I assume I would need a SSL certificate to use whmcs? Obviously I don't have one right now because I just send the customers directly to paypal or 2co and use redirects...

Anyway, sorry if this is common knowledge, but I can't find a clear answer. I want to be sure about everything before I make the change. Whmcs seems so automated and I still do everything manually and use actual paper books to keep customer records.

Thanks

Hello,

2CEHCKOUT: You fill in the details WHMCS asks for, the user will be able to choose by paying Manually or Re-Curring! If they choose to pay manually then they have to login to their client area and click "Pay Invoice" to pay the invoice.. If they choose recurring then this will be done automaticly..

PayPal: What you do is that you register an paypal business account, you enter the paypal email into the payment settings in WHMCS... The user can choose if he wants to pay manually or with a subscription! Manually, the user will get an email every month were they can pay their invoices. They can also find their invoices inside the client area.. Subscription, they will still recieve an email saying that an new invoice has been generated, but the client cant simply ignore this as the payment will be paid automaticly and WHMCS will make the invoice as paid!

SSL: SSL is not needed to run WHMCS, it is recomended but not needed at all! You can start off by not using WHMCS with SSL and then add the SSL feature later on if that is needed!

And YES, you don't have to create the buttons for payments or the packages inside 2checkout.... WHMCS handles everything for you

Hope that helped :)

CORRECTION!! For now, you cannot do recurring with 2checkout..

So how does billing with 2CO work? Do you set up the plan in the 2CO site and make it a one time payment type of thing and then WHMCS invoices the customer every month, linking them to the 2CO payment page?

I would never recommend running WHMCS (or anything which transmits sensitive data, for that matter) over an unsecured connection. SSL is a Good Thing, and decent certificates can be obtained quite cheaply these days. (E.G. Enom's rapidssl)
