DosDawg
last nite i started to mess about with the import script on whmcs, it would only import 14 of 94 accounts, couldnt figure out what was going on, but this was not major. then this morning i logged into my mail client, and was not able to get my mail, ok no biggie, i reckon, so i move on. then around lunch time i was trying to check my email again, well i started trying to look at stuff, and realized that i couldnt even login to my primary domain. so i clug on over to network-tools.com and run a whois, well there is no record of my primary domain, that has been registered since 2002, with the same registrar, it reports an error. ok maybe i didnt pay my domain renewal, so i login to my domain registrars site, and the domain is registered until 2012, ok kewl, but what is going on. i dont know, but the site will not show up, i go to whm, and check in there, well its gone, yeah, gone, where'd it go, dont know. i am looking at whmcs, and its showing up there as inactive, i activate it, but nothing changes. i contact my hosting support and they provide me the logs of the server, the domain was deleted. wtf, deleted, by whom, was my first thought, they sent me the log, the domain was deleted at 6:00AM this morning, and i was fast asleep, until 6:15AM got downstairs around 6:30 AM and that is when i tried to check my email. support keeps digging into the issue, and inform me that the account was not deleted from WHM, nor was it deleted from shell access, that it appeared that the billing software had decided that my account needed to be deleted. ok so it is what it is, i get the domain back on the server, and just ready to accept it for what it appears to be, one of those great anomolies of life. i check my email, and i get one from whmcs cron, telling me that the account i am referring to in this post has been terminated. ok how'd this happen? nobody logs into this script as it has not gone live, and i have not assigned any moderators for this billing/support software. so where'd my domain go, and just out of curiosity, how it is that it was my primary domain, that was the largest account holder of resellar accounts on whm? i do not expect to get many answers, just wondering what in the world could i have possibly done wrong here, that caused my domain to be deleted, many hours after i had gone to bed, and approx 1 hour before i was able to get online? oh well that is my rant for the month. i am sure i will be back with plenty of others. later, DosDawg
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted August 8, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted August 8, 2008 The logical explanation is that your primary domain was one of the 14 that you managed to import. Following the import the next due date was set to a date in the past and therefore when your daily WHMCS cron job ran at 6am, it detected the account was a long time overdue, more days than the setting in Config > Automation Settings > Auto Termination and therefore it deleted the domain. It is advisable that you disable the cron job until you have finished importing your existing accounts and setting them all up with the correct dates and pricing to avoid something like that happening again. DosDawg
well i am going to go look but i am thinking it is set to a free account, as there is no reason why i would send an invoice to myself. well i took a look, and there is a price setting on there, guess since it hooked to on of the packages listed on the setup, it adapted its configuration settings. now here is the kicker, i have not completely got everything setup, but this is the only account that is being tossed. seems to me that a confirmation would be something that would prevent this from happening, possibly suspending said account, but not deleting the account from the server. i just dont think i like that idea too much. where do i disable the cron jobs? from within cpanel? geez i have been working on gettin this setup now for 2 months, and now its throwing my accounts away, hopefully it will stop if i stop the cron jobs, but this is disheartening, as the site it deleted was over 6 years old, and i had been blogging on there for 6 years sometimes daily for long periods of time. i know thats not your problem, but i just wanted to say how i feel this could have been prevented, and something should be established or maybe you have that setting programmed in already i just dont know where its at, but not to terminate an account, but to merely suspend an account for a set number of days, after that suspension time has elapsed, then by all means a termination would be justifiable. but this account termination has happened to me twice this week. so can you tell me what i need to do to prevent this other than disabling the cron jobs? later, DosDawg ok i took a look at the path you set me on, and i unticked the box for termination of an account. this might come back to bite me, but hopefully i will figure this out more as time goes along. just hope i dont lose any more accounts. and to touch on what you said about the next date due, it was all 00-00-0000, so that is what all the accounts are set at at the moment, until i can get through the whole setup aspect of this. all in all, i think this is goin to help me a great deal, and yes i lost a site that was sentimental to me, but mostly because of my ignorance to the application, nothing to do with the application itself. lesson learned, shouldnt happen again.
sol2010
Ohh that's a cautionary tale ! Which is why I turned off automatic deletion..... Remember SkyNet ? Could have been worse, all your client hosting accounts could have been deleted too ! Lesson time...
