twb716
I am currently running WHMCS on a site hosted with godaddy.com, which doesn't allow me to run automated taks because they don't offer cpanel. I am currently looking for a new host that will allow me to automatically send invoice reminders and past due notices. What requirements does a hosting provider need to have in order to complete such tasks. Can anyone recommend hosting that would allow WHMCS automation that wouldn't necessarily break the bank? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. TB
uberhost
There's plenty of hosting out there that would suit your requirements, but I'd suggest that since you're using shared hosting you focus on security. Get on a server with suPHP enabled, and if it is a cPanel server then make sure that they only allow jailshell SSH access and that they have enabled php open_basedir Protection (PHP's open_basedir protection prevents users from opening files outside of their home directory with php).
twb716
Thanks. I just got a response from WHMCS that recommended having Open_basedir DISABLED. Why do you think? Also- WHMCS told me that I have to have crons enabled in order to automate tasks. Does anyone know if Godaddy can do this on a shared account? PHP open_basedir Protection can be enabled on the server, with your account excluded since WHMCS requires functionality that is only available outside of your home directory. A good host can work this out for you. GoDaddy? Mmm, no. Mega-sized hosts simply cannot make exceptions to their rules.
tweaked
Just to add to the comments, most smaller hosts can tailor to your needs. If you are serious about your web site then the big hosts 'one plan fits all' does not come true when you have simple needs and they do not support them. Hosts like us and others in the WHMCS forums specialize in tailoring for the user needs. Cpanel makes it easy to do so in most cases. I had one customer come to us after their host said they could not install a simple script like Joomla. Now that that is funny.
