Bandwidth Graph Solution Req'd - What are you using?

Recommended Posts

Dear all WHMCSer's/Webhosting Providers/Developers,

We've been in the webhosting industry for quite some time now, and as time goes by, we've always been looking for new improved solutions for our clients.

Once of the most major solutions we are seeking at the moment is Bandwidth Graphics/Traffic Monitoring.

We are looking for a versatile solution that will enable our dedicated and colocation clients to monitoring their traffic usage, both in and out, in either a per mb or per gb graph.

Basically, we want them to be able to access these usage pages via their Client Area, via something like a link that goes to http://theirserverip/mrtg/index.html or http://ourmrtgreportingserverip/ then they login with a username and password.

Essentially, they don't need to know what speeds they are getting in/out on these graphs as their bandwidth/data usage is much more important so that they know when they are going to be charged overusage (if at all)

Now one major problem exists where in some of the DC's we use, we do not know the routers that our equipment connects to, so I presume that puts a little bit of an issue into the equation.

What I am after is a good solution, even suggestions as to what your all using, how hard the system is to implement and what may need to be changed etc in order for something of this nature to be working.

We've been trying to play with Cacti, but it does not seem to report/graph what I want for our clients (unless I'm simply not doing something correctly with it?)

We have a range of server types, from Linux (CentOS) servers to Windows Server 2003 servers. Some of these setups have control panels, some dont.

We would also look at maybe implementing this solution for our VPS clients later down the track, but for now, its mainly dedicated and colocation clients we're interested in.

We're happy to develop the WHMCS side and hopefully come up with a module/customisation that we can then further release onto other WHMCS users.

I look forward to the suggestions of others :)

Regards,

We have made our own system which is tied in with WHMCS. We pull the raw data from MRTG and run a few scripts. Not only does this present the customer with their graph but also the hourly usage for the last 24 hours, the daily usage for the last month, and the monthly usage for the last year.

It checks a customfield in the WHMCS db and if they get near their limit - it pops them a nice email informing them. At the end of the month, if they have exceeded their limit - it raises an invoice automatically for any overage.

Yes. You wont be able to automatically monitor their usage at the switch - like you would normally. Either get your DC to give you a private switch with SNMP access or install SNMP on the servers but that is going to get messy and all depends on that service running.

We use it internally on both switches and machines. It does to full port graphing at 95%ile and also total bandwidth.

GBGraph maybe something you would like - it's nice but old and the site does not work half the time.

I PM'd as well without response. I've requested this before directly from WHMCS, as have others, but so far doesn't seem to be interested in adding in a feature to tie into Cacti or RTG to do this.
