Mercurial
I've just finished on the phone to Streamline (natwest) regarding a merchant account. They are telling me I need 3 seperate accounts to do what I want: - internet merchant account - to take single payments - continuous authority account - for recurring billing - normal merchant account - if I want to take cc orders over the phone I am suprised that I need a seperate account for the phone orders, and I asked why this was, apparently regulations. Even though this would be using the virtual terminal that worldpay/protx/secpay provide. What are other peoples set ups like? How many merchant accounts do you have? penguin
It's quite normal to have to have a separate account for internet transactions, therefore phone or face to face orders then require another account. We use Barclays who give you one merchant account for both normal anc continious authority which makes life much easier.
dspotter
We use CDG Commerce and only need one merchant account to process all major credit cards. With that one merchant account we are able to process internet transactions, recurring transactions and accept any phone orders. You should give them a look, they are also recommended by WHMCS. We have been using them before they were the recommended by WHMCS and have been very pleased with the merchant account. I have used their live chat feature on their web site whenever I needed some quick support and they have always been very helpful. I would recommend them.
Mercurial
Cheers for the recommendation however I'm not sure we would be able to use them as we are UK based, so would prefer to stick with the UK banks/gateways in any case.
penguin
If it's of help, we use Protx as the payment acquirer which is already integrated into WHMCS. They have a list of UK merchant banks that they work with, which may give you a starting point for contacts to see what the best deal you can get is: http://www.protx.com/information/merchants_list.asp
dspotter
Yes, CDG is pretty much US based unfortantely. They do accept international accounts on a case by case basis, however I am not sure if they would still be a good viable option for an international based business trying to get a merchant account. If it's of help, we use Protx as the payment acquirer which is already integrated into WHMCS. They have a list of UK merchant banks that they work with, which may give you a starting point for contacts to see what the best deal you can get is: http://www.protx.com/information/merchants_list.asp They look pretty good, do you know if they offer anything for those that want to resell? Reason I ask is that we have been quite pleased with CDG, we are also a reseller as well (please don't get that confused with me as reason to push CDG in my previous post, quite simply we have enjoyed their service and because of that is the reason we resell their merchant accounts) however as the OP stated they don't really cater to any business outside the US. Trying to find a good merchant account we can resell for that accepts merchant accounts outside the US as we get asked often about this. Sorry if I am hi-jacking the thread a little bit
penguin
Protx is just a payment acquirer - you'll still need a merchant account with a supported bank, however their processing charges are good - for low volume transactions (1000 per month) it's a flat fee. They do offer a partner scheme as well - we're registered with them for this - you can then refer customers to them with a joint application form, ours for example looks like this: https://support.protx.com/apply/default.asp?PartnerID={5920CA22-6FF4-4F21-A4B2-DC378875D233}, to give you an idea
Mercurial
Thanks penguin. We did look at ProTX but they only support 3 banks for continuous authority accounts. None of which Natwest, so we started looking at the other options, namely WorldPay Invisible and SECPay.
uhhosting
We use ProtX, WorldPay, PayPal. Always have multiple gateway's available to use, if one goes down for any period of time you'll be stuffed.
