Talk me through affiliate system

I'm pretty sure I know how this works but need to be clear so If someone could let me know if I understand how the affiliates system I would appreciate it.

 

1. put the referral link (with the affiliate number as shown in the FAQs) on the referring site.

 

2. customer clicks through the link (to come to my site and hopefully buy)

 

3. Affiliate site .... or link..... or my site creates a cookie with the affiliate info in it (this is where I'm confused)

 

4. whmcs on my site detects the cookie and automatically credits the affiliate

 

5. not sure about affiliate payout (is this manual or automatic using my paypal account)

 

Am I getting this right? could someone fill in the blanks for me.

3. WHMCS creates the cookie on the user's computer.

5. Once the customer reaches the payout threshold you've set they can request a withdrawal, which will create a support ticket and you can manually pay them however you like.

Payouts are manual (As they should be so you can verify everything to check for fraud).

 

If you create a specific ticket department (Billing or Affiliates etc...) then navigate to: Setup -> General Settings -> Affiliates in the "Payout Request Department" select the department you just created. When ever a client creates a payout request it will go to this department.
