Planet Domain - WHMCS Link

I am new to WHMCS so please bear with me.

 

Prior to using WHMCS, we had set up a reseller account with Planet Domain (PD) for our clients to register domains. We have managed to successfully integrate WHMCS and PD now which is all good. We have added all our clients into WHMCs - lots of fun.

 

Now ... the question ... As some of our clients already had PD accounts with us, how does WHMCS find the client in PD and 'link' new domains and renew domains with the correct people? Or does WHMCS / PD create a new account on the PD system?
