Collect recurring payments with Credit Cards

There is something I don't understand about the functionality of WHMCS.

The question is about people who pay by credit card. About half of our clients that pay by credit card do not want to go on-line every month and re-do the payment. They just want us to do it for them. Pretty much similar to us paying WHMCS, we gave them our credit card details once and the payment is automatically subtracted. What do I have to do in order to achieve this? We are using a custom gateway module.

I live in South Africa and unfortunately very few gateways are supported here. Paypal for example is banned because of forex currency control restrictions.

So my next question is, if I had to adapt our payment gateway to do recurring payments, how do I read the credit card data that is already in WHMCS since it's encrypted.

You don't want to read the data, you just need to build a module for WHMCS that has merchant gateway capabilities. From the sounds of it you've just created a third party gateway module so far. You'll need to open a ticket for a merchant gateway template.

We're in the process of writing a module for one of the local South African payment gateways, if you're interested in it

We would be interested in this. We currently have a basic Paygate module that works quite well with WHMCS for payments, very very simple, just basically a CURL call, but as I mention here in the post it's no good for recurring payments. Furthermore it appears people who pay by credit card are lazy about revisiting our site every month to do their recurring payments, so we'd like to start doing it for them.

I simply haven't had the time open a ticket for a "merchant gateway template" as per Matt's advice.

I am willing to share our basic Paygate module with the community, if anyone is interested.
