MACscr
Any idea how we go about creating the custom nameservers for reseller acounts when their package is created? I should probably post this second, but i noticed the welcome letter for resellers never mentions anything about nameservers as well.

chrishaley
I've not worked with reseller accounts in WHM too much, but could you edit their DNS entries in WHM to point ns1 and ns2 of their domain to your ns1 and ns2 IP address?
MACscr
Um, I wasnt asking how to do it in WHM, I know how to do that. I was posting this on the WHMCS forums because I was wanting to know how to do it with WHMCS account creation. Figured that was obvious.
Greg
Under Configuration | Manage Servers Make sure you have your name servers working first or isn't it that obvious to you, as you put it?
MACscr
Under Configuration | Manage Servers Make sure you have your name servers working first or isn't it that obvious to you, as you put it? How would that give custom nameservers to resellers? Exactly. An example of custom nameservers for resellers would be them signing up with the domain RESELLERDOMAIN.com and they would get assigned ns1.RESELLERDOMAIN.com and ns2.RESELLERDOMAIN.com. I have to do this manually for each reseller that signs up, then add them to the custom fields on their order, then send out the welcome email.

Sorry, when you said: Any idea how we go about creating the custom nameservers for reseller acounts when their package is created? It sounded like you were asking how to do it in general, not WHMCS specifically. The only way I could think of to do it in WHMCS automatically for you is to have a checkout script run that tests $hostingid to see if it's a reseller package or not and if so, talk to the server to create the DNS entries, and add to the email template "Your custom nameservers are ns1.[Domain] and ns2.[Domain]" This would be a very nice feature to add to a future release for reseller accounts.
MACscr
I still think this is a big issue. Reseller accounts cant be created with custom nameservers and none of the registrar modules allow clients to even register nameservers (specifically need this in enom). Anyone else agree both of these are needed for proper reseller hosting/automation?
JasonO
We have this as a small extra as an addon - and at the moment we do it manually. I've never known a possible way for it to do it automaticly in WHMCS 80% of our reseller customers choose to pay the extra £1 for the custom nameservers, and it's something I can see being simplified to be part of the automation.
railto
only problem is that it need to be done through the registrars api, so that they are valid nameservers, otherwise sites cant point to them, really annoying but hey, we dont give the option of custom name servers, only d oit if the reseller asks for it
Jordan
I've had this same issue with having to manually register nameservers+IPs for those that want custom nameservers. Most of my resellers usually have their domain at their registrar, so a simple link to the KB to do it is how I've been able to not worry about it. But it would be nice to have that option for anyone to create a custom nameserver through the CP IF that option was purchased (eg: another addon when ordering a domain?).
othellotech
none of the registrar modules allow clients to even register nameservers Its a needed feature even if all you do is domains (i.e. its not a reseller or hosting specific requirement) - however it may be coming in a release or two, as Matt's dropped me a quote for it
railto
i agree it will be very nice if its done via api, i used to order domains through 123-reg and getting them to register nameservers is a nightmare, but with enom it is SSSSOOOOOOOOO simple
demodemo
So from what I am reading in this thread, someone signs up for a reseller account. I login to WHMCS and approve the order which then automatically creates the account in my WHM, and emails the customer with a welcome email. Once the customer asks for private nameservers, I go into WHM and create them. At this point, how do I get the info (including IPs for the nameservers) to the client? I suppose I could manually email the details, but is there alternatively an email template that handles this in WHMCS? I couldn't find anything. othellotech
There's more to nameserver setup than just setting it up in WHM - they have to actually be registered with the root servers etc, its not *always* something that can automated. Just charge enough for them to cover your time
demodemo
Oh, I know, the customer also has to register the nameservers at their registrar and assign IPs to them. I was just wondering if I need to send the nameserver details manually or if there is some automated email that I have overlooked.
