where to install, same server?

Does the system have to be installed on the same server the hosting accounts are created to? as i have 2 domains, one for hosting and another for designs and services, i want to install wgmcs onto my main site which isnt the server the hosting accounts get installed onto, does this matter?

No, you can install WHMCS onto any other server. Since it supports multiple servers, it does not matter which one you install it on, but you will of course need to configure your other server(s) accordingly so that the accounts can be created correctly.

Do not install WHMCS on a server that your clients reside on. You dont even need to have it on a cpanel server. I have a server that i run only 3 of my company sites on, including whmcs and then is used for external backups as well, but thats it. Didnt see the point in paying extra for cpanel on it when it would only hold 3 sites.

When MACscr says DO NOT. He means you can if you want, but if your client's server goes down, so does your support system.

That and the security implications with your billing database, etc. Its a lot easier to hack into another account or db once when your already in the server.
