Place a link to invoices in the client area product details?

Would it be possible to have a link to the product invoices inside the product details? Maybe in a sidebar? There's the {$invoice_payment_link}  email variable but that doesn't work inside a tpl file. I have a lot of tickets for customers trying to find the invoice for their product. In the admin area there is a link to view the invoices for a certain product but there's nothing like this in the clientarea, would be great to have there.
