nptech
When I set a domain in WHMCS to registrar OpenSRS I receive a "Registrar Error" dialog box (see attachment). * I've configured the Configuration-->Domain Registrar setting for OpenSRS with my master reseller username and a freshly generated key * I've ensured outbound firewall ports TCP/55000 and TCP/55443 are open * Ive ensured my PHP (4.4.7) has '--withopenssl' *As per previous e-mail guidance from Matt, all OpenSRS domains I want to manage through WHMCS are under an OpenSRS customer profile with the same username and password as my master reseller login Suggestions? Is there a definitive guide / HOWTO for integrating OpenSRS with WHMCS? Are there any specific isuses / known limitations to using the OpenSRS module? Thanks in advance.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted January 4, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted January 4, 2008 This error message means the username and password for the domain are not what WHMCS expects. As you will no doubt be aware, the OpenSRS system is unusual in that each domain in your account has it's own username and password and this username and password has to be known by WHMCS to be able to view details about it and manage it. When WHMCS registers a domain itself it does know the details so works fine, but on imported domains, you'd have to manually update the username and password to what WHMCS wants. nptech
Thanks, Matt. "As you will no doubt be aware, the OpenSRS system is unusual in that each domain in your account has it's own username and password" This is true - domains can be individually managed through seperate 'manage.opensrs.net' accounts - even if those accounts have the same login name. However, you can also group together many domains under a single username/password (which is what I've done for ease of management through the manage.opensrs.net web interface). Is this type of setup compatible with WHMCS, or does each domain need to be in a unique username/password profile (even if the profile username is the same (as noted above)? "When WHMCS registers a domain itself it does know the details so works fine, but on imported domains, you'd have to manually update the username and password to what WHMCS wants." I see. However, how do I determine "the username and password that WHMCS wants" for imported domains (of which I have 40+)? Does this also mean that each domain will need to be placed into separate / unique 'manage.opensrs.net' logins to work with WHMCS? Thanks again, Matt! Keep up the good work - WHMCS just keeps getting better and better!
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted January 4, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted January 4, 2008 It's a very bad idea to put them all into the same account. Any domain owner can request his login details from OpenSRS, and they will send it to the admin contact for the users domain. So if any of your users does that, they'll have access to all 40+ of your domains with that username and password. You'll need to open a ticket for info on how the username and password is worked out for each domain. Matt
nptech
I'm still testing OpenSRS with WHMCS, so no worries about the login details being leaked to the wrong person... these are all my own domains. Nonetheless, very good point about security. All other customer domains are grouped into seperate OpenSRS logins for their own management. Does this mean that each domain will need to be placed into individual / separate 'manage.opensrs.net' logins to work with WHMCS? Or can I still keep a customers 'group' of domains under a single (but seperate) OpenSRS login? I will open a ticket re: how to work out username and password. Thanks, Matt!

nptech
For this to work, the OpenSRS registered domain you want to manage in WHMCS must first be assigned to it's own separate login / profile on the manage.opensrs.net site. The username and password for this profile is very specific - it's a name/password combination that WHMCS auto-calculates. Open a ticket with support to obtain the username / password generation formula. Once you have assigned the domain in manage.opensrs.net to a profile using the username/password combo that WHMCS expects, go to the 'Domains' tab in the customer's WHMCS profile and select 'OpenSRS' from the Registrar drop-down list. You may have to manually update the registration / expiry info, but now any changes to the domain (name servers, contact info, etc.) will be updated in the OpenSRS profile.
azrahn
Hi, The answer about which username and password to use can be found in this tread. http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?t=11327&highlight=opensrs post #9 Ronald.
joedogs
This error message means the username and password for the domain are not what WHMCS expects. Matt Would it possible to implement username and password fields for the OpenSRS registered domains under the client-->domain record so the domain can be managed with WHMCS?
