Bulk import of existing OpenSRS domains

Opensrs has a requirement that WHMCS must have a user level username and password before the user can manage domain information (owner contact and Name server) for their domains from inside WHMCS. For domains registered by whmcs, the username/password are set using a proprietary method, and subsequently work for management.

I'm importing almost 1000 names that have been previously registered. The username/password does NOT match what WHMCS self-generates. Matt believes that I should be able to update the username/passwords from my OpenSRS resellers panel. I can't find where. Can anyone that has done this help me out?

It's not possible. OpenSRS does not give resellers the same level of access that Enom does. Only the registrant/admin contact can change the username or password for a domain.

Your right of course. I've used OpenSRS for almost 10 years and was fairly certain of this before I posted, but Matt felt certain that others had done this.

I wrote a php cli script to do this. If you look at tblclients and tbldomains you'll see how the Client and Domain entities relate. I first imported my clients and updated the "OLD" system with the new systems userid. I then added the domain's with the new userid.

All:

IMHO, no offense intended to the authors of this fine software, WHMCS does not truly support Opensrs. Other registrar API's allow reseller total access/control to a registrants information. OpenSRS (one of the first on the market) restricts reseller access, favoring the registrant. WHMCH depends on their secret algorithm userid/password being the profile for domain. When you port domains, you'll have to get your customer change profiles for all of the domains. Then you have to hope they don't change the password on the OpenSrs manage panel.

For me, I have a customer that manages 170+ domains under a single profile. This customer is not going to create 170+ unique profiles, one for each domain.

I'm a programmer by trade, and very familiar with the OpenSrs API. I have a working prototype of code that when I have time I'll finish and submit to WHMCS for consideration.

I would be very interested in whatever you come up with. I moved away from OpenSRS about a year ago but I still have about 1,500 domains registered with them. I have been looking for years for a system that would intergrate OpenSRS domain management with our billing system -- it would make it so much easier for our OpenSRS clients to manage their domains.

I was curious if you got anywhere with this. Any luck?

Hi,

I just had WHMCS write me an import script that imported all my OpenSRS domains. You simply have to get OpenSRS to give you a report with all your domains.

Wyatt... I don't suppose you'd be interested in sharing that, would you? If not, how much did WHMCS charge you for the script and I'll just talk to them.

Thanks,

-Eric
