erwin123
Not sure where to post this... We're using WHMCS now for three years and find my way reasonably well around it. The only thing I'm struggling with are product/addons/options. Pretty crucial The most important issue I struggle with is how complicated it is for a customer that allready has a doman registered with us, to upgrade this domain to a hosting package. This hopefully is one of the most used actions of your customers. Upgrade the domainregistration (on which most of us earn next to nothing) to a full hostingpackage (thats where the money is). What would be more senseable then to add a button 'Add hosting' next to each domainregistration? Its so obvious that I just can't believe its not there. I had it custom coded in the .tpl files and that was that. But now I want to upgrade the template of the client area and face the same problem again. ****How can we convince WHMCS to add this simple feature that is so crucial to each hostingcompany?**** We spent huge amounts of money on advertising, SEO, beautiful websites etc. Maybe WHMCS can spent some energy to enhance the customer experience and help us sell more. I would love to hear others views on this. Thanks. Edited October 29, 2015 by erwin123
erwin123
I posted this a few months back and received no response... Am I really the only one who thinks its too complicated to upgrade a domainregistration to a hostingaccount? The "update current nameservers" is not something most clients understand as "upgrade registered domain to hosting". Do I miss some crucial function that others use to have their customers add hosting to a allready registered domain? Why is there no button "add hosting" next to each registered domain?
twhiting9275
You're looking at the problem backwards. The correct (and forward) way to do this is to order hosting, and add the domain to it, not order a domain, then months later say 'hey, I want to add hosting'. The number of people that do that might be a few, but, for the most part, that's not how the hosting industry works. Most will order hosting + domain at the same time, OR they'll order hosting, and have their domain elsewhere.
erwin123
Dear twhiting9275, > Thats not how the hosting industry works With all due respect, I've been doing this for 16 years and its (at least here) totally normal for someone to register a domain for later use. Indeed most order both at the same time but its in no way unusual for clients to order a domain first and later (weeks, months, years) add hosting to it. We encounter this on a almost daily basis.
twhiting9275
And I've been working in this industry for just as long, for some pretty large companies. I've yet to see a single legitimate client come up and say hey, I have this domain I bought from you years ago, now I want hosting. Charge me more for it That's what addon domains and reseller accounts are for.
erwin123
Are you serious? You say in 16 years you never had a customer registering a domain that wanted to add a hostingaccount to it later in time? Either we totally misunderstand eachother, you are making things up and never worked in this industry longer then a few weeks or you are just trolling. I politly assume its the first option. That or the domain and hosting industry and the people using it in our respective countries are not worlds but galaxies apart.
