Hostpapa and Deprecated MySQL

Hi All,

I'm relatively new to creating webpages with Mysql and PHP, and have been struggling with the fact that almost all the reference books I have been using to write code refer to MySqli and the only code I can get to work with my host provider- Hostpapa is MySql. I read almost everywhere that Mysql is deprecated, so why does Host papa persevere with the deprecated version? Is there a way to get their servers to read the up to date code?

So far I have been stripping the (i) off the MySQLi functions listed to get the previous deprecated code, but I can't imagine that works for every scenario.

Anyone have any comments to make on this predicament, apart from change hosts?

Regards
