Customising Upcoming Domain Renewal Notice based on days prior to expiry

I'm looking to customise the Upcoming Domain Renewal Notice email template based on the days to expiry. Can someone please help/confirm the syntax that I'm using in the template.

 

{if $domain_days_until_expiry > 14}
An invoice for this domain renewal will be sent out via email 14 days prior to expiry.
{else}
An invoice for this domain renewal has already been sent to you via email.
{/if}

I managed to get this type of customisation working.

 

The smarty tags are bit of a dogs breakfast to be honest!
