Deciding over MB5 or WHMCS..

yongsan

Question

Hi there,

I have seen alot of positive feedbacks over WHMCS and negative ones on MB5 so I have some question in mind with regards to WHMCS and pardon me if these questions has been asked before. (We are using MB4 at the moment).

1) We are using Hsphere and Ensim hosting control panels. Can WHMCS be able to perform auto-create accounts? MB4 can auto create accounts for Ensim and according to them, MB5 does do auto create for Hsphere.

2) How easy is it for us to customise the looks of the invoice that was sent to customers?

3) We are using Kayako helpdesk at the moment. Are we able to integrate it to WHMCS?

Thanks!

Regards

Yongsan

Hi,

Unfortunately, WHMCS is not integrated with the Ensim or Hsphere control panels at the current time. As for your other 2 questions, it's very easy to customise the invoice template (you can do it using any regular HTML editor) and there is a loginshare module available for the Kayako system.

Regards,

Matt

Unless you get a lot of new clients, it's probably still worth moving to WHMCS. It's so much simpler to MB, and far superior as a billing system. You can do your creates manually for now, and when WHMCS implements Ensim and Hsphere as no doubt it will, you'll then be laughing.

I used MBv4 for 6 months before switching to WHMCS. Wish I'd switched earlier; WHMCS really is that much better.

We've used MBv4 for years now, looked at MBv5 is just far to over complicated and people used to complain Mbv4 was complicated!

We're in the process of migrating to WHMCS, from the severla months of testing we have been really please with WHMCS and would recommend it over MB.

Easy enough WHMCS, although we are slightly biased using WHMCS for most of this year. We tried MB4 and it was good, MB5 a joke and evaluated everything we could find. In our opinion WHMCS beat 'em all hands down, and that was many features ago. Just download it and put it to work and then you can decide ;)

I would agree, whmcs has proven an invaluable tool for all of our hosting. I can put up with the few features it doesn't have because it doesn't rip the nuts outta memory on your server like MB5 was. Oh yes and if you have a problem with MB5 they will tell you to go back to MB4 until its out of its infancy, and i could quote this for you from an email sent from modernbill in a support ticket...LOL

MB5 is a pain in the buttox and I am glad to see the back of it, also if you have an ENOM account thru ModernDNS you keep that when you get rid of modernbill also so no messing around with transferring everything to a new enom account.

Just my 2 cents worth ;)

Hi,

Thanks for all your feedback. I too got alot of negative feedbacks on MB5 but that is the only route to go according to them if we would like to auto create accounts in Hsphere as well as some other bugs and feature lacking in MB4.

We really hope to automate all the process which includes account creation to provide customers a seamless and smooth transition once they pay online instead of waiting for one of our staff to manual create it.

Is all these part of whmcs plans in the future? I really do hope to jump the ship but I need the assurance that it will eventually become part of the module or if I was to pay someone to do it, will this be able to get done?

Thanks!

Not tried HSPhere yet, Ensim module needs some debugging and finishing off, which I hope to be able to provide Matt a working framework for in a couple of months.

as longs as you can get around the "interesting" structure of design for fpdf then you can do anything

3) We are using Kayako helpdesk at the moment. Are we able to integrate it to WHMCS?

See other threads.

Hi,

I have actually been in contact with Ensim regarding possible integration - looking for documentation, code samples, etc... Their latest reply was as follows:

Hi Matt,

We have sold our Ensim Pro product line, the industry’s leading single server automation control panel for web hosting, to SWsoft, a server virtualization and automation software company.

The sale of the Ensim Pro product line will allow Ensim to focus its efforts on the rapidly growing Unified Communications (UC) market, a multi-billion dollar industry where Ensim has had strong success. Ensim will further expand its presence in new key market segments, such as Enterprises, Managed Service Providers (MSP) and SaaS Providers (software-as-a-service) with its Unify product line by building on its reputation as a leading provider of management software for Shared Hosting Providers.

We will work with SWsoft over the next few months to allow for a smooth transition so that support, services, and ongoing product development of Ensim Pro continue un-interrupted.

I will update SWsoft on the effort that we were trying here and let you know further steps.

Regards

Matt,

I can supply the documentation for Ensim command line (what you need to create/modify/suspend/remove) accounts if you'd like. It's a PDF that is available via their support site but you need to register to get at it (figure you might not want to register).

The biggest problem with the Ensim "interface" is that it's a set of command line scripts that have to be run as root and not an xml/rpc type interface like cPanel etc.

Yongsan,

We ran MB (V4) and Ensim for quite a while. We could never get the automation working correctly. You had to go through a whole lot of hoops getting sudo and several other things setup. We're quite good at *nix and know how to set all the "bits" up, yet never got it working quite right / all the time etc. It's not totally MB's fault as Ensim can be difficult to work with and now with the sale to SWSoft it's not going to be better for a while.
