Issuing a new Invoice for a Domain Registration [After a Refund]

A client has requested a refund for a PayPal payment [because they used "the wrong PayPal account to pay the invoice"].

I was able to refund the payment but still need to send an invoice for the domain registration.

I've read the "Transactions" documentation and "PayPal" documentation but still don't understand how to create a new invoice and link it to the order.

After taking care of the products, you may then want to create a new manual invoice for repayment - for example if the dispute is a mistake or the client has contacted you - so you can do that simply by raising a custom invoice, and with that you can also apply any fees or surcharges you may have incurred for the disputed payment. You should not attempt to re-invoice the original items for repayment as that could lead to double incrementing of due dates, and double renewal actions on products & services.

Should I...

  1. create a new order (Orders:Add New Order)? Or
  2. create a new invoice (Billing:Billable Items:Add New)?

Either way: How do I link the invoice to the domain registration order?

Delete the invoice and the domain attached to the clients account and ask them to start over.

This approach doesn't seem to address the existing order (i.e., the order that's linked to the refunded invoice).

i.e., The domain has already been successfully registered with the registrar and is currently associated with a completed order. What should be done with the completed order?

What I mean to say is that...

  1. The domain has already been successfully registered with the registrar. Won't this approach attempt to register the domain a second time?
  2. Deleting the domain will create a gap in the "paper trail". How will WHMCS link the domain to the order and the order to the invoice?

I've just realized that I can....

  1. delete the old order;
  2. create a new order; and
  3. de-select the "Send to Registrar" box when accepting the order.

This will...

  • create a continuous, unbroken "paper trail" for the domain registration, and
  • avoid registering the domain a second time.

You dont need to do any of that.

Just create a new *invoice*

Thanks, OthelloTech: But good hygiene (i.e., continuity) was my primary objective and my approach worked as-designed. :)
