Can WHMCS support this business model?

cartguy

Question

Have a new product that will be similar in delivery to how most antivirus programs are done - "Freemium" or crippleware. You give away the software for free, however to get the full features or after a certain time you have to pay.

Unique about this would be that users need a username and password to access the product. So at some point, the customer *must create an account. After the account is created, they will be given incentives to upgrade to a subscription.

So my questions are:

  • can WHMCS handle creation and management of accounts without a payment? Or has a custom module for that already been built?
  • Can customers upgrade inside their customer account panel from "free product" to "paid product"? Or has this module already been built by someone?
  • Can WHMCS handle several types of subscriptions (i.e. monthly, 6 month, yearly) and allow customers to switch between them? Or has this module already been built by someone?
  • If none of the above has been done, is there a developer community to pay a person to make those changes?

Thanks! :)

Hi there :),

• can WHMCS handle creation and management of accounts without a payment? Or has a custom module for that already been built?

-> Yes, you can set the prices to $0.00 (free) and use template modifications to hide things you don't want to show during checkout (or change how they appear).

• Can customers upgrade inside their customer account panel from "free product" to "paid product"? Or has this module already been built by someone?

-> WHMCS does have an upgrade/downgrade option within their client area, you would set the products they can upgrade and downgrade to.

• Can WHMCS handle several types of subscriptions (i.e. monthly, 6 month, yearly) and allow customers to switch between them? Or has this module already been built by someone?

-> Yes this is possible within WHMCS, when you create the product you would set the pricing for each cycle and disable any you don't want. You have the options of: monthly, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years and 3 years).

• If none of the above has been done, is there a developer community to pay a person to make those changes?

-> ModulesGarden.com is first to mind for me for 3rd party development.

Good luck with your venture :).
