Nerdster
Hi Guys, We have a person or small group of persons from a company in Vietnam who continuously purchase domain names with Stolen credit cards. Its a night mare to deal with, as soon as the order is processed the domain name order is final. Enom (One of our registrars) will not cancel the domain and refund the fee, we are charged $15 from Paypal for the charge back, and the payment is returned to the credit card owner. Most cases we have canceled the payment and refunded back to the credit card before Paypal hits us with the charge back fee, however the process of dealing with these kinds of fraudsters is time consuming and frustrating. Our server technicians block all Vietnam IPs but they just use Proxy to get access and place new orders. We generally know the fraud orders due to the 4 or more failed credit card payment attempts. Now we are stuck with 30+ domains that have no resale value and we still have not found a way to prevent these fraudsters from continuing. We have requested a trial of MAXMIND and hope that may reduce the problem. If there is anybody else out there having these kind of issues or have a solution of how to help prevent these orders from processing, please do let me know.
scurrell
Don't auto-register domains except for existing clients.
penguin
I think you'll find a significant improvement when you start using maxmind - just make sure you tweak the settings to a reasonable level so it's not letting such orders past. It may take a bit of monitoring orders to do this, however once set you shouldn't really need to touch it again.
Troy
Don't auto-register domains except for existing clients. This is the ticket. Close all the fraudulent accounts so they can't be re-used and under Settings -> General Settings -> Ordering check the "Tick this box to always leave orders by new clients pending for manual review (no auto setup/registration)" option. Add maxmind (free if you sign up via http://www.whmcs.com/partners/maxmind) and then you should be fairly well protected against losing money due to fraudulent orders.
And then there was one les
i would definitely go with maxmind. they recommend a level of 60 on the new risk scoring, i would set the bar a little higher for automation, say 70 maybe even 80. It really depends how strict you want the scoring to be. Sadly even with manual checks you are going to get the odd one that comes back to haunt you.
