New subscription setups

To cancel an existing subscription can this be done via WHMCS or does it have to be done via paypal?

 

To create a new subscription the customer chooses pay from their packages list. I see the sub created in paypal but the subscription id field isn't filled in WHMCS. Does this get filled automatically with the first payment or do I need to get the id manually from paypal?
