easyhosting
Microsoft has announced it intends to "retire" its instant message chat tool and replace it with Skype's messaging tool. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20222998 I wonder what next Microsoft will discontinue. April 2012 Microsoft discontinued Office Live Small Business Edited November 7, 2012 by easyhosting
concerto49
I do prefer WLM to Skype. I don't like the Skype interface and the peer-to-peer means true offline messages doesn't work.
easyhosting
I do prefer WLM to Skype. Yes I also like WLM as Skype slows my PC down when its installed, but as the header says "Microsoft ditches Windows Live Messenger for Skype" so liking WLM will make no difference in Microsofts books.

Except if you're in China. Time to move? Skype doesn't slow down for my PC, but I haven't found it as useful. Microsoft is only doing this to justify their spending on buying Skype.

easyhosting
So what you think they should still sell the model T... you people make no since at all... NO but millions use MSN/Windows Live Messenger. It looks like the main reason for them to discontinue these is to do with Windows 8, but not every one will be moving to use Windows 8 as unless you have a touch screen then windows 8 is just windows 7 Edited November 19, 2012 by easyhosting

I purchased the Windows 8 upgrade about a week ago and I'm totally loving it. To be honest, I was skeptical about the whole deal and bought the upgrade only bcz it is priced for $39.99! The pro's are many to name but here are the ones that I was shocked to see: - Windows 8 is more "user friendly". Have you ever tried teaching your grandpa to use a pc? Trust me, win8 rocks. - the windows key actually has a purpose now - app, web, and local search all via typing directly on the Start Page. - PC slow? Format system files only; keep user files untouched - Unlike Win7 Home Premium; Win8 supports all of my 24 GB ram. - Boot/shutdown time is MUCH faster. - Less intrusive windows messages from updates etc.. (assuming you also turn off alerts in UAC) - manage windows apps and settings from one "hotmail" account (not sure whether we're able to use 3rd party email accts.) - win8 actually finds drivers for you and installs them without a hassle. ( I didn't install/update a single driver yet) This is coming from a person who prefers to use any linux distro when given the choice but you gotta give credit when and IF it's due and I believe this is the case with this new OS. +1 Like.

mylove4life
The under the hood updates to Win 8 are worth it alone... people that say it's not good ect are just haters....
easyhosting
When Microsoft announced Windows 8 and the Beta release it was them that originally stated it was Windows 7 designed to work with Touchscreens but with reconfigured menus.
blackterbium
That's their general statement for the non-geeks out there. Technically, like mylove4life stated, under the hood, it's been all upgraded. Windows 8 is the upgrade we needed since Windows XP.
